This fish fry is coated with a blend of spices and marinated with a herb paste made of coriander leaves, curry leaves, ginger, garlic and green chillies. It tastes delicious!

Ingredients
    Fish
  • 500 grams Fish (5 fish filets)
  • Marinade
  • 2 tablespoons neutral oil (or mustard oil)
  • 2 tablespoons plain unsweetened yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger garlic paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper powder
  • 1.5 tablespoon kashmiri red chilli powder
  • 1 tablespoon kasuri methi (crushed, dried fenugreek leaves)
  • 1/4 teaspoon chaat masala
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • salt to taste
Instructions
    Making the Marinade
  1. Take a big bowl. Add 2 tbsp. oil. Mix the chilli powder in the oil. This imparts a deep red color to the tandoori fish

  2. Add ginger garlic paste, turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder, fresh lime juice, plain unsweetened yogurt, Kasuri Methi and salt to taste.

  3. Mix well

  4. Dab the fish fillets dry. Coat the fish with the marinade

  5. Adding Smoky Flavor to the fish
  6. Take some pieces of charcoal in a metal cup or on a boat shape tin foil. Heat the charcoal until it turns white hot

Place the metal bowl over the marinated fish.

You can either use charcoal lighter fluid or hold the charcoal pieces with tongs in a flame till it heats up
  7. Add a few drops of oil or ghee on the charcoal. Place a lid on the fish bowl as soon as the charcoal starts to smoke

  8. Let the fish marinate for 1 hr with the spices and the smoke

  9. Cooking the Fish
  10. Drizzle some oil on the fish

You can either pan fry the pieces or bake it in an oven or air fryer
  11. We will bake the fish. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F or 190 degrees C. Place the fish on a baking tray with a wire rack

You can brush some oil on the wire rack so that the masala does not stick to the rack and clean up is also easy.
  12. Bake the fish for 5-7 min and then flip them. Bake them for another 5-7 min on the other side or until done

  13. Make sure you flip the fish gently as some fish break easily.
  14. Sprinkle some chaat masala on the fish (optional) and add some fresh lime juice
