Description

Masala Soda is cooling non alcoholic summer drink that is made with an aromatic spice mix called jaljeera. Jaljeera has ingredients that are cooling and help in digestion as well. Here I will show you how to make a keto masala soda and a homemade jaljeera powder.

(Net carbs per serving: negligible)

Ingredients
    Jaljeera Powder
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Hing or Asafoetida powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon Black Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ginger powder
  • Masala Soda
  • 1 cup Soda (or Sparkling water)
  • 1.5 teaspoon Jal Jeera Powder
  • juice from 1/2 lime
  • 2 teaspoons Erythritol/Monk fruit sweetener (or any other keto sweetener of your choice)
  • 2 Mint leaves
  • Ice
Instructions
    Making Jaljeera Powder
  1. Dry roast cumin seeds till they turn dark brown and aromatic. It should approximately take 1 min or so

  2. Once the cumin seeds have cooled down, add them to a grinder jar along with the rest of the ingredients mentioned above

  3. Grind to a fine powder

  4. This powder can be stored for months in an air tight container

Jaljeera normally has mango powder for tartness and dried mint powder. We will substitute with lime juice and fresh mint leaves while making Masala soda
  5. Masala Soda
  6. Add some sparkling water or soda water add any keto sweetener of your choice. I prefer the erythritol/monk fruit sweetener

  7. Add jaljeera powder, some fresh lime juice and stir well till the sweetener dissolves

  8. Add ice

  9. Add mint leaves and top with a cup of soda or sparkling water

  10. Give it a stir and enjoy!
